Chiltern Railways has applied for permission to upgrade the Oxford to Bicester railway line to allow it to run trains from London Marylebone to Oxford via Bicester. It has made an application under the Transport and Works Act 1992 for the project it has dubbed 'Evergreen 3'.
The scheme involves reinstating double track along the railway, building a short 'chord' to connect it to the main London to Birmingham line in Bicester, enlarging stations at Bicester Town, Islip and Oxford, and building a new station at Water Eaton. Because of the planned higher train speeds and frequencies on the line, 41 out of 42 public and private level crossings of the railway are proposed to be replaced by two road bridges and eight foot and bridleway bridges.
An objection period is now running and will end on Wednesday 17 February. Please click here for more details about the project. For more information, please contact Angus Walker.
